Wide Open Thinking

Sometimes I have the great honor of working in a school with 3-5 year old people. This is a place where EVERYone learns in a safe and wonder-filled way.
One boy im-pressed me with his flexible & imaginative mind.
He introduced me to a beanbag duck named Sterling, and a small box that once held an alarm clock.

Following my pleasure to meet them both,
I asked if the box could be used again?

Immediately, he put the box on the head of the duck and designated it a space helmet. How quickly he knew!

Later during show & tell it was revealed that Sterling the
duck was also a Martian. The duck and the box had been transformed.

Thirty spokes share the wheel’s hub;
It is the center hole that makes it useful.
Shape clay into a vessel;
It is the space within that makes it useful.
Cut doors and windows for a room;
It is the holes which make it useful.
Therefore profit comes from what is there;
Usefulness from what is not there.

In Praise of Slowness

A student from Turtle Longevity QiGong class shared this with me:

http://www.ted.com/talks/carl_honore_praises_slowness.html

After rushing through bedtime stories with his son, Carl Honore was inspired to explore the lacking presence and enormous value of slowness.

Carl points out that we have a cultural taboo against S L O W, and that our speed of life has created many challenges in our relationship to ourselves and to the world around us. Is S L O W possible? Do you think you can incorporate it into your life?

Twenty-Nine

Do you think you can take over the universe and improve it?
I do not believe it can be done.

The universe is sacred.
You cannot improve it.
If you try to change it, you will ruin it.
If you try to hold it, you will lose it.
So sometimes things are ahead and sometimes they are behind;
Sometimes breathing is hard, sometimes it comes easily;
Sometimes there is strength and sometimes weakness;
Sometimes one is up and sometimes down.

Therefore the sage avoids extremes, excesses, and complacency.
