The “Art of the Heart”

I recently had a conversation with someone who wondered if a path of self-awareness practice would be devoid of emotions, and I was reminded of this:
Calm and quietude, the Art of the Heart, are not the denial of the movements and reactions that make up life. On the contrary, the Art of the Heart is analysis of these movements and reactions. It is the temperance that distances anger and outbursts. It is the perpetual establishment of a balance made of breaths and blood, flesh and bone, feelings and thought.

Accept disgrace willingly.
Accept misfortune as the human condition.

What do you mean by “Accept disgrace willingly”?
Accept being unimportant.
Do not be concerned with loss or gain.
This is called “accepting disgrace willingly.”
What do you mean by “Accept misfortune as the human condition”?
Misfortune comes from having a body.
Without a body, how could there be misfortune?

Surrender yourself humbly; then you can be trusted to care for all things.
Love the world as your own self; then you can truly care for all things.

Habitual Health

Health happens in the in-between spaces & the long term habits.
The hundreds of times you sit down in a week may not occur
to you as a big event until you experience pain or dis-ease.
But those hundreds of times you sit down in a week are full of
information, & impact.

Can we teach ourselves habits for H E A L T H?
Can we experience everything with H E A L T H?

What does that mean?

April & May

‘Tis the season
for new thoughts & action,
surfacings, openings, expansions,
like the blossoms we see all around us.

I’m taking this time to finalize plans
for my trip to the East Coast
during June through August.
Teaching & practicing QiGong,
writing, farming, visiting family & friends,
will fill my days.

How do you feel SPRING in your life?
